Nutritional Psychiatry

The doctors at The Mind Store use the latest innovations and proven science-based treatments to help our patients. One of the emerging technologies that we utilize is Nutritional Psychiatry, which shows promise for addressing many mental health issues.

Evidence from observational studies confirms that the quality of your diet is related to your risk for common mental health disorders, such as depression. Moreover, recent intervention studies of dietary improvements suggest that nutrition plays a role in the prevention and treatment of various mental health issues. Adding nutraceuticals to other treatments may enhance outcomes.

Nutraceuticals

Nutra-ceuticals

We only use FDA approved treatments for our patients to ensure safety and effectiveness. Currently there are two proven nutraceuticals on the market,
Deplin and Cerefolin NAC.

Deplin® is a prescription product, and is formulated to meet the nutritional needs of people with depression and can be used in conjunction with your current antidepressant. Deplin capsules contain L-methylfolate, an active form of folate. Folate, which is one of the body’s essential B vitamins, helps the brain naturally improve your mood. If you have depression, your body may need more active folate. Low levels of active folate can make it harder to see results from your antidepressant.

CerefolinNAC

Cerefolin with NAC is a nutritional supplement. It works by providing the body with folate, vitamin B12, and a form of antioxidant, which helps to reduce or eliminate oxidative stress and lower homocysteine levels. Cerefolin NAC ingredients consist of methylcobalamin (vitamin B12), L-methylfolate and N-acetylcysteine. It is approved by the FDA for the treatment or prevention of vitamin deficiencies associated with memory loss.

We use genetic testing to determine your body’s ability to create
L-methyifolate and supplement when appropriate.

The Mind-Body Relationship

We’ve all heard the sayings “You are what you eat” and “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.” New studies have given us a better understanding of the relationships between diet, nutrition, and mental health. If your diet is lacking in key nutrients, or if your body is not able to process these nutrients effectively, you may be experiencing related mental health issues. A prescription nutraceutical may prove to be the missing piece of an effective treatment plan that is tailored to your unique mind and body.

"After seeing Dr. Park for the last eight months, I can honestly say I’ve never been more thankful for a doctor like him. He doesn’t b.s. you. He doesn’t allow you to b.s. yourself. I cannot put into words how much he has helped me heal and helped me to be a better version of me."
